The Japan-only WonderSwan, Bandai’s answer to the Game Boy, was actually created by the same guy who made the Game Boy, Gunpei Yokoi. He worked for Bandai after leaving Nintendo.
The follow-up system, the WonderSwan Color, was Yokoi’s swan song if you will (he died in a car crash shortly after), and had a pretty good run before being demolished by the GBA, housing a number of exclusive Final Fantasy remakes and a ton of bullet-hell shooters.
Due to its short life span and Japan-only release however, playing these games has been difficult. That’s all changing soon though, as the Xbox 360 will be getting a number WonderSwan Color games via the XBLA, all shmups.
Best yet, they all have exquisitely awesome names like Judgement Silversword and Cardinal Sins. Check ‘em out below:
