Now that the instant streaming discs for both the PS3 and the Wii have shipped, the Bros wanted to see just how quick videos would load on each system, as well as how good they look and if there was any lag/drop outs on either one.
We let the videos play for a bit to see if there would be any lag, but there was none on either system. Also, to our surprise, the Wii not only loaded videos a bit faster, but the picture quality was better.
I don’t get it.
I should mention that we were streaming a SD video, and using a 1G connection through COX internet, but regardless, the picture quality should look miles better on the PS3. Come on Netflix!
And as for presentation and user interface, we’re going to have to go with the Wii on this one. Using the Wiimote to rate videos and browse movies just felt so right.

Gaming and beverages have a wide and varied history, from 7up mascot Spot’s 16-bit adventures, PlayStation’s Pepsi Man and the Donkey Kong Jungle Juice energy drink. I believe in the business world they call this synergy. In the 90′s SEGA and Coca-Cola took such cross-promotional teamwork to the next level, releasing a complete beverage-branded console bundle. In it, you got [...]
Man, Nintendo certainly had a lot of awesome merchandising back in the day. In game-branded food alone there was Nintendo-themed cereal, mac-and-cheese and fruit snacks. Way better than those shitty mint tins they now sell at FYE and Newbury Comics. But here’s a Nintendo product you definitely should not eat: The Legend of Zelda Model Set. Currently [...]
(NOTE: This was a contribution to a feature that ran @NintendoLife about the 25th Anniversary of the NES. You should go read it.) The first video game I ever saw was Kung-Fu for the NES. My older sister’s friend down the street had just gotten the system, so she kindly escorted me down to their [...]

How long does it take for the Wii to stream the HD netflix content…..oh thats right.
Yeh, im fairly certain if people are watchin netflix on their ps3′s its definitely not in SD
Man, I been watching tv since 1978, and I’ll tell you what: streaming netflix on Wii is exponentially better than the old times. Who needs HD? I don’t, and I’m happy.
Satisfied.

Wow–and both are just miles behind teh xbox 360. I couldn’t believe the weak interface and slow response times of the two.
Big deal…I use Netflix on the PS3, and the fact is that it uses the BDLive application to stream video…that takes a few seconds (that’s SECONDS, people) to load, but allows HD content to be streamed, unlike the Wii.. I think the video and sound quality are top-notch, and I don’t have to worry about using a console that could flake out and autodestruct at any moment.

@Lucas I’ve been watching TV since it was black and white. There is definitely no reason for color I’m perfectly happy with a black and white.
As for the performance of either system, it’s pathetic. Even my TivoHD is faster then either of them and it’s a slug.

Tivo HD owns both of those consoles. Don’t know about the 360, since I don’t own one, but Tivo streaming is almost instant after hitting play, as well as the ability to stream HD titles too.
