The Department of Eagles lead man Daniel Rosen recently gave an interview to Village Voice, telling the e-zine about the band’s recent tour and album, and how his other band, Grizzly Bear, has helped.
DOE began while Rosen was in college, birthed by boredom. He and his dorm-mate, Fred Nicolaus, began scrapping together samples and instrumentals, layering vocals over the beastly beats with a microphone borrowed by their neighbor (and soon to be Grizzly Bear) Chris Taylor.
In the interview, Rosen says the new album, In Ear Park, is a mix of old rehashed songs, and new songs written while recording the album. While touring, he employs members of Grizzly Bear to fill out the band.
He also declares the banjo has been “dangerously misused” in indie music. Thanfully, DOE doesn’t “misuse” the strings, woodwinds, handclaps and birdsongs that populate the album.

In it, you got [...]

Way better than those shitty mint tins they now sell at FYE and Newbury Comics. But here’s a Nintendo product you definitely should not eat: The Legend of Zelda Model Set. Currently [...]
(NOTE: This was a contribution to a feature that ran @NintendoLife about the 25th Anniversary of the NES. You should go read it.) The first video game I ever saw was Kung-Fu for the NES. My older sister’s friend down the street had just gotten the system, so she kindly escorted me down to their [...]
